Alma College Scots!

Believe it or not, when I first started college I had no idea what I wanted to major in. The only thing I knew was that I really enjoyed working with children. However, it wasn't until I took my first Children's Literature class during sophomore year that I figured out that I wanted to be a teacher.

Like in high school, I found myself very active in college. I became a big sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters and joined a group called Students Offering Service (I spent a couple semesters as the women's issues co-chair). Volunteer work was (and still is) an important part of my life. I also joined Alpha Phi Omega--a national service learning fraternity where my volunteer opportunities expanded even more. Once I had figured out education, I joined the Education Club and eventually the Education Honorary, Epsilon Sigma Epsilon. I joined the Alma Leadership Alliance where I had the opportunity to meet and converse with alumni,be a part of the homecoming committee, and plan and carry out many other activities for Alma students.

I became a sister of Alpha Gamma Delta during my junior year and spent a semester as the Vice President of Recruitment. I also had an excellent time on Alma's Relay for Life committee for my last two years. I took advantage of all the wonderful opportunities Alma provided for me!

I met a lot of terrific friends at Alma College. College is supposed to be "the best time of your life," and I guess this can be true if you make the most of it, but also let it help you make the most of the rest of your life!

I went on two alternative breaks with Alma College. During my sophomore year, I went to Charleston, South Carolina and worked with Habitat for Humanity. It was an awesome experience! During my junior year I went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spent a week in a mostly Puerto Rican school. It was an extremely rewarding and eye-opening experience!

I also spent a spring term in Chicago with the Urban Life Center in which I had an internship at Ray School. That was another incredible experience and it truly gave me a taste of diversity in the classroom!
